What Does the Ethical Score Mean?

Each project on our website features an Ethical Score—a transparent rating from our EthicCheck tool. It’s based on evidence from our project partners and measured against key ethical criteria: animal welfare, community impact, environmental sustainability, and transparency.

Grounded in expert standards and the values of ethical travellers like you, this score shows how a project actually performs—not just what it claims.

What Does the Ethical Score Mean?

O2E is proud to support ecotourism, a form of tourism involving visiting fragile, pristine, and relatively undisturbed natural environments. The tour is intended as a low-impact, small-scale alternative to standard commercial mass tourism and aims to educate participants on the wonders of the tropical North and how important the eco-system is in this region. And, more importantly, how we can preserve it and all the inhabitants who live in it.

There is no typical day due to the vast range of activities to be undertaken, however, here are some of the inclusions and subject matter that participants will learn about from this experience:

  • Biodiversity of the Great Barrier Reef
  • Marine naturalist presentations
  • Effects of climate change
  • Marine life identifications
  • Effects of human interaction on the Reef
  • Swimming activities
  • Outdoor activities
  • Flora and Fauna
  • Understanding of the rainforest ecosystem
  • Ecology
  • Bushwalks
  • Swimming in the Creek
  • History
  • Indigenous Art & Culture
  • Geology
  • Sustainability

Age Requirement: Infants to adults.

“It was hands-on, hard work and very satisfying. The highlight of each day was watching the keepers distribute the new enrichment items and observing and noting how the orangutans interacted with them. I was moved to tears! “
